Literature Text

How dawns the morn so very bright and bold
that night's dark face can only turn away;
and all our dreams in sunlit skies are sold
as eventide gives pardon to the day.
She feels the cloak of dreams unclasp their sway
and fading softly spun into the gold,
that she will rise from sleep and make her way
ere morning grows another second old.

The Canzone is an Italian form which resembles a sonnet but is less
fixed in its syllabic count, meter and length. A sonnet is 14 lines
with either iambic pentameter or tetrameter. A canzone can be
between seven to twenty lines long and is usually 10-11 syllables.
They can also be one to seven stanzas long. The rhyme scheme is
also not fixed with these, so you can do any scheme as long as
there is consistent rhyme and rhythm.
